Førjulstiden in Noorwegen
November en december stonden in het teken van mijn laatste tijd hier in Bergen, Noorwegen. Maar ook in het teken van Førjulstiden! De dagen werden al snel korter, zon op om kwart voor 10 en onder om half 4. Donkere dagen dus. Maar waar halen alle Noren hun energie vandaan? Førjul!
Het is de ‘pret vóór kerst’. Alle mensen hangen lichtjes op, op de universiteiten ook, en veel hebben een kerstster voor het
raam. In de winkels is alles in kerstthema, alle bakkerijtjes maken de Noorse kerstkoekjes en iedereen wenst elkaar al een God Jul (zelfs in november al). Het is echt genieten en het maakt de donkere – en regenachtige- dagen in Bergen opeens heel gezellig. Ook drinken ze hier in Noorwegen een speciaal kerstdrankje; Julebrus. Een rode en bruine variant zorgen voor discussies over welke nou echt te lekkerste is. Als je het mij vraagt zeg ik de bruine, een soort vanille karamel frisdrank.
In november heb ik een aantal gave trips gedaan. Ik had bezoek van een vriend, waarmee we de heftigste regen tot nog toe hebben gehad. Ik ben met de studievereniging met een aantal mensen op huttentocht geweest. Ook kreeg ik een last-minute plekje op een surftrip van de studievereniging naar Hoddevik. We hebben gesurft op een iconisch surfstrand in het Noorden, waar we surften in de sneeuw!
Bij terugkomst lag de eerste sneeuw in Bergen, wat prachtige plaatjes opleverde. Daarna ging ik samen met een vriend naar Oslo waar we mee gingen op een
groepsreis naar Lapland in Finland. Dat was ook ontzettend gaaf. We hebben huskysleeën gedaan, gelanglauft, gesnowboard, het noorderlicht gezien en de schoonste lucht op aarde mogen meemaken.
Bij terugkomst was het helaas examentijd (ja, tussendoor heb ik soms ook nog gestudeerd). Die zijn nogal wat anders dan op de universiteit Utrecht. Je zit hier met heel veel mensen in een random gebouw ergens op een industrieterrein en dan krijg je 4 tot 6 uur (afhankelijk van het vak dat je volgt) om een essay te schrijven. Je moet je eigen laptop meenemen met speciale software. Ook mag je gewoon naar de wc of naar buiten als je dat aangeeft. Dat was even wennen.
En toen was het tijd om afscheid te nemen van alle mensen. Langzaamaan ging iedereen naar huis voor
de kerst. Ik heb nog een paar mooie wandelingen gemaakt maar het was vooral regenachtig en donker. Ook mijn tijd zat er helaas op. Op 20 december vloog ik weer naar Nederland om kerst met mijn familie te vieren. Ik had niet verwacht dat ik een uitwisseling zo mooi en waardevol zou vinden. Ik heb ontzettend genoten en ik ben als persoon zeker veranderd. Ik raad het iedereen aan, het vliegt voorbij!
